FAQs

How does the process start?

The process starts with us determining whether I am the right person for you.  This usually happens by way of an initial phone consultation.  This is a time for you to tell me a little bit about the problems you’re looking to address in therapy, and for me to tell you a little bit about myself and the kind of therapy I provide.  The initial consultation call typically lasts about 20; there is no charge for this call.  If we decide to move forward together, we’ll set up a time for your first session.

What happens during the first therapy session?

During the first session we’ll talk in more detail about the issues that led you to seek help at this time. We’ll talk about your specific treatment goals, and the process we’ll undertake together to achieve those goals.

If the focus of treatment will be your child or your family, I will ask you to fill out a number of forms prior to the first session that will give me important information about your child, and/or your family.  The forms are lengthy, but they go a long way in giving me necessary background information without our having to take time in session to go over those details.  I review these forms carefully prior to our first session together.

How long does therapy typically last?

While most of the treatment I provide is short-term, the length of treatment really depends on the problems you’re looking to solve and the approach taken to solving those problems. For example, a course of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) generally lasts about 6 to 9 months; however, treatment may take longer if there are other issues at play as well, such as unresolved trauma. Overall, the goal is to complete treatment — not for therapy to continue indefinitely.

Do you accept insurance?

Although I am presently an out of-network provider for all insurance carriers, I encourage you to reach out to discuss payment options. It’s a good idea to contact your insurance carrier to get a handle on your out of-network benefits, co-pays, and deductibles. At the conclusion of each session I will provide you with a detailed invoice that has all of the information you’ll need in order to submit a reimbursement claim to your insurance carrier.
